Red Cross to Hold Annual Golf Tournament

     The 10th Annual Joseph “Pete” Griffin Memorial Golf Tournament has been set for June 5th at Griffins’ Greens. Sponsored by Entergy, the event is an 18-hole, four man captain and crew format with an 8:00a.m. shotgun start. All proceeds from the event go to the local American Red Cross.

     The tournament, started 10 years ago to honor Pete Griffin, has grown each year. This year’s tournament will feature several games on the course including a putting contest, a chip the ball in the raft contest and a hole in one contest, sponsored by Burritt Chevrolet. After golfing, the participants will gather at “The Deck” at GS Steamers for a buffet dinner.

CPR/AED Adult Review Class To Be Held

OSWEGO, NY (April 26) – On Wednesday, May 12, the American Red Cross will hold a one evening CPR/AED Adult Review class. The class is will be held at the Oswego branch office located at 333 West First Street from 5:30pm-8:30pm. Individuals must have American Red Cross CPR/AED certificates that were issued up to 24 months prior to start of the class.

     Throughout the class, participants will demonstrate competency in all required skills listed on the skills checklist, participate in all skills sessions, and pass each section of the written exam with a score of 80 percent or better. The class will start promptly at 5:30pm and individuals should bring their book with them to class or purchase one before the class if they do not have it. This review will let current CPR/AED Adult certificate holder’s the chance to keep up with the current skills and knowledge needed for emergency assistance.

     This convenient class will be a great opportunity for those certified who would like a review of their knowledge, skills, and training in CPR/AED. CPR/AED For The Professional Rescuer Class

 OSWEGO, NY (April 21) – On Saturday, May 8th, the American Red Cross will hold a one day CPR for the Professional Rescuer class. It will be held at the Oswego Branch Office located at 333 West First Street, Oswego, NY. The class will run from 8:30am-5:00pm and is designed for the first responders who need to act quickly at the scene of an emergency.

     This class will provide the skills needed to respond appropriately to breathing and cardiac emergencies in adults, children, and infants until further medical help arrive on the scene. It will also teach participants to understand the Emergency Action Principles when providing emergency care for a victim, how to access the Emergency Medical System, and they will be trained in two-rescuer CPR, resuscitation, and the use of a bag-valve mask.

     The course is directed towards those with a duty to act and provide care for people who need immediate help. The class teaches lifesaving training necessary to quickly help victims of emergency. Certification as a CPR/AED Professional Rescuer will be valid for two years. Being certified and having an up-to-date knowledge of emergency situations and appropriate actions can help save a life today.

CPR/AED Adult Class To Be Held

OSWEGO, NY (April 19) – The American Red Cross will hold an Adult CPR/AED class on Thursday, May 6th, from 5:30pm to 10:30pm. It will be held at the Oswego County branch office located at 333 West First Street in Oswego. This class is designed for anyone who would like to be prepared and able to respond to situations of sudden illness or injury.

     Participants will get the opportunity to learn the skills and knowledge necessary to respond to emergencies where assistance may be needed. They will be able to provide aid in breathing emergencies using cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and an automated external defibrillator (AED) for victims of sudden cardiac arrest. Other skills such as; how to care for a person who is choking, when and how to move a person from a dangerous scene and identifying the signals of shock and how to minimize its effects will also be taught throughout the class along with many more skills and training.

     Getting certified and being able to help in time of emergency is important and can help save a life while waiting for further medical help to arrive. Greene’s “Celebrity Guest Bartender” HAPPY HOUR

OSWEGO, NY – On Tuesday, May 11th, Greene’s Ale House & Grille will hold its once-a-month “Celebrity Guest Bartender” Happy Hour. The Celebrity Bartender of the evening will be Danielle Hayden.

     On Monday, April 19, the American Red Cross will hold a one evening CPR/AED Review class for the Professional Rescuer and Lifeguard. It will be held at the Oswego office branch located at 333 West First Street in Oswego from 5:30-10:30pm.

Become A Certified Babysitter

       On Thursday, April 22 and Friday April 23, the American Red Cross will hold a two-day Babysitter’s Training class. The class will be held at the Oswego branch office located at 333 West First Street in Oswego. Hours will be from 9:00a.m. – 5:00p.m on Thursday and 8:30a.m. – 1:00p.m on Friday. Babysitter’s Training classes are geared towards youths between the ages of 11 and 15.

     Throughout this two-day class, participants will learn how to apply appropriate techniques to prevent misbehavior, help children engage in desired behaviors, learn about three types of basic child care and how to recognize an emergency. Other skills such as being able to identify and apply the emergency action steps: check, call, and care and learning how to care for an infant properly whether it’s feeding an infant, changing a diaper, or knowing the signs of an emergency situation of an infant will also be covered.

     Participants will earn Babysitter’s certification as well as First Aid and CPR/AED. Participants will gain the skills and knowledge needed to make smart decisions and stay safe in any babysitting situation.

CELEBRITY BARTENDERS SUPPORTING LOCAL AMERICAN RED CROSS

On March 9th the American Red Cross kicked off its’ March is Red Cross month celebration with a “Celebrity Bartender” taking center stage at Green’s Ale House in Oswego. Chrystal Hoyt, a “local” celebrity, was the first to try her hand at bartending and raising money for the local Red Cross. Chrystal raised nearly $300 in tips in just a couple of hours that will go to support local Red Cross programs and services.

Greene’s Ale House has now partnered with the American Red Cross and will be hosting a “local celebrity” on the second Tuesday of each month from 5:30 – 8:00pm. Each month a new “face” will try their hand at bartending; joining with friends, family, coworkers and community members to support the local Red Cross with their tips going to the American Red Cross. Everyone is invited and welcome to come out and support your favorite bartender and the local American Red Cross.

On April 13, 2010 Bob Bateman of Cakes Galore will be on hand to serve ‘em up, Hans Storsberg will be providing the music, and everyone is invited to stop by and help Bob help the Red Cross.

Standard First Aid With CPR/AED Adult, Child, & Infant Class To Be Held

On Wednesday April 7th and Thursday April 8th, the American Red Cross will hold a two evening class that will result in certification in Standard First Aid with CPR/AED for adults, children and infants. The class will be held from 5:30pm-10:30pm on Wednesday and Thursday from 5:30pm-9:30pm at the Oswego branch office located at 333 West First Street in Oswego.

     This two evening class will teach participants the skills necessary to respond to sudden emergencies of adults, children, and infants. Such skills and training taught throughout the class will be; how to control bleeding; identifying the signals of stroke, poisoning, diabetic emergency, and allergic relations; and how to identify when it’s necessary and how to use an AED and CPR on adults, children and infants.

     After taking the class, participants will know how to respond to situations and signals they would have been reluctant to help with if they were not certified.

Troopers Investigate Fatal Car Crash in Oswego County

The investigation revealed a 2000 Ford F-150 was located by the Constantia Fire Chief off the west side shoulder of the roadway, overturned and partially submerged in Scriba Creek. The driver was located by fire personnel, partially ejected from the vehicle submerged under water.
