Local golfers can support the purchase of the latest digital mammography equipment as they participate in Oswego Health’s annual golf tournament on June 3 at the Oswego Country Club. Area youngsters of all ages can take part in free bicycle obstacle courses and get properly fitted for a bike helmet during the Fulton Police Department’s bicycle rodeo to be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 1 in the parking lot of the Fulton Community Center. This free event will also offer drawings for a free bike, air hop rides, bike registrations, food and more.
At the luncheon, the volunteers were given a small gift in appreciation for their service and Oswego Health President and CEO Ann C. Gilpin read a proclamation approved by the health system’s board of directors. The healthcare provider also recognized several volunteers for their many years of service.
Oswego Health staff members from throughout the health system recently showed their support of colorectal cancer awareness. Employees recently paid a fee to be allowed to wear jeans to work. The funds collected were donated to Oswego County Opportunities Cancer Services Program.
Oswego Health is offering basic life support CPR classes for healthcare providers on June 8. Two four-hour sessions will be offered.
Christine Close, the clinical manager of Oswego Health’s Central Square urgent care center, recently attended the National Urgent Care Conference held in Orlando, Fla. At the two-day conference, hosted by the Urgent Care Association of America, Close learned about effective new trends and practices used in urgent care settings.
The event is also supported by the Oswego and Fulton YMCAs. The paved course at the Seneca Hill Campus is a certified 3.1- (5K) mile course for runners and walkers. There is also a 1.5-mile course for walkers. In addition, the unpaved nature trail walk will be available.
Area students can learn more about careers in the health care field at Oswego Hospital’s MASH Camp (Medical Academy of Science and Health) to be held July 31 and August 1. The camp is open to students entering the eighth or ninth grade in the fall.

Oswego Health’s board-certified cardiologist Thomas Grady Jr., returns as the guest speaker at an Ask the Doctor presentation at 6 p.m. April 30 in the lower level conference room of the Oswego Health Services Center, which is adjacent to Oswego Hospital. Dr. Grady will discuss the symptoms and treatment of atrial fibrillation.

Assemblyman Will Barclay said today the ethic’s oversight in the state Assembly is inadequate and needs to be reformed in order to protect the public’s interest, not political interest. Barclay is planning to put forth legislation that will create in law an Assembly standing committee on Ethics and Guidance that will be independent of the Assembly Speaker.
