Oswego’s bookmobile operates differently from traditional bookmobiles. It delivers free books that don’t have to be returned. The bookmobile also delivers encouragement, modeled reading and activities to complement reading. Vandalism nearly thwarted the Bookmobile’s 2013 before it started.
Assemblyman Will Barclay said today the ethic’s oversight in the state Assembly is inadequate and needs to be reformed in order to protect the public’s interest, not political interest. Barclay is planning to put forth legislation that will create in law an Assembly standing committee on Ethics and Guidance that will be independent of the Assembly Speaker.
Mayor Tom Gillen has announced that an initiative of the Campus-City Relations Committee, the Hall Newman Center, and SUNY Oswego’s Campus Life and Residence Life and Housing offices will encourage students to donate rather than discard household and personal items as they prepare to leave town for the summer.
In 2013 Fort Ontario State Historic Site will be open to the public from Saturday to October 13. Visiting hours will be Wednesday through Sunday, 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The fort will be open seven days a week during the peak of tourist season from June 26 through Labor Day. Admission prices will remain the same as last year.
Brief budget and bus proposition programs have been produced by Oswego High School WBUC. Superintendent of Schools Bill Crist and District Clerk Bill Foley discussed the propositions. The programs will air on WBUC (Time Warner Channel 16) during the weekend and through Monday evening, at 5-6 p.m. and 8-9 p.m.
The high-tech, remote-controlled unit was launched into Lake Ontario near the northwest edge of the SUNY Oswego campus. It’s 7-plus-hour mission is to collect intensive data for analysis of nearshore-offshore interactions, fish productivity in Lake Ontario, changes to the lower food web, and algal abundance.
Just in time for the summer boating season, State Senator Patty Ritchie has announced she has secured $75,000 in state funding to be used for the dredging of the Sandy Pond Channel. Today Senator Ritchie met with local leaders, community members, business owners and members of the Sandy Pond Channel Maintenance Association to make the announcement.

On Wednesday, members of the Oswego City Police Departments Anti-Crime Team (ACT) received information that Shane C. Nolan, 32, whom was wanted on three separate warrants for his arrest, was possibly manufacturing methamphetamine at an undetermined location within the city of Oswego.

At the fort, families can come together for a chicken BBQ provided by Woodchuck Saloon as well as hamburgers and hotdogs from Rudy’s Lakeside Drive-In.

John R. Clark Sr., 75, a resident of West Fifth Street, Oswego, passed away Saturday May 18, 2013, at University Hospital, Syracuse. Born in Oswego, he was the son of the late Joseph Sr. and Olga (Yablonski) Clark.
