John J. ‘Oscar’ Woods, 85

OSWEGO, NY – John J. “Oscar” Woods, 85 and a resident of 225 E. Fifth St., Oswego, passed away Friday morning Nov. 9, 2012, at Upstate Medical University, Syracuse.

He was born in Oswego and was the son of the late John and Mary Salvador Woods.

Mr. Woods was predeceased by his wife. Josephine Burden Woods. in 2007.

He was a communicant of St. Paul’s Church and a member of the Knights of
Columbus, Ancient Order of Hibernians, Utility Employees Association and the
International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 478 where served as steward.

Mr. Woods was an employee of the Niagara Mohawk Power Company for 47 years.

He worked for the city of Oswego for many years as manager of the Cullinan Ice Rink and the Gallagher Swimming Pool.

Mr. Woods was a veteran of the US Navy.

He is survived by three daughters, Margaret (Charles) Guerra of Hershey, Pa., Constance (Robert) Rogers of Little Falls and Barbara (Patrick) Maher of Burnt Hills; two sons, John J. Woods Jr. and Lawrence (Becky) Woods both of Oswego; one brother, Lawrence M. Woods of Bradford, Pa.; eight grandchildren, Thomas Guerra, Eliott Rogers, Graham Rogers, Sophie Woods, Samuel Woods, Joseph Maher, Ellen Maher and John Maher; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by one sister, Patricia Woods; and two brothers, Jeremiah Woods
and Richard Woods.

Funeral services will be Tuesday 11 a.m. from the Dain-Cullinan Funeral Home and
at 11:30 a.m. in St. Paul’s Church.

Burial will be in St. Peter’s Cemetery.

Calling hours will be Monday 4-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

  3. To the Woods family, I am so sorry to hear of the passing of your Dad. I so loved him. He was always so sweet to me when Barb and I were close friends (many, many years ago). I am so sorry I missed the services.

Fulton’s Memorial Day Salute Is Under Way

Fireworks announce the Fulton Memorial Day Salute weekend.Check inside for parade photos and more! Fulton’s annual Memorial Day Salute got off with a bang Friday night.
