Helen ‘Ruth’ Pelkey Engle

OSWEGO, NY – Helen “Ruth” Pelkey Engle, 93, a former resident of 131 W. First St., passed away on Friday November 16, 2012, at St.Luke Health Services.

Born in Scriba, she was a daughter of the late George and Rosa (Dauphinet) Burdick and had attended St. Louis School and Oswego High School.

Ruth was a waitress at the Pontiac Hotel and Admiral Woolsey’s.

She also worked at the Singer Sewing Machine Store.

She was a member of both the VFW #2320 Auxiliary and the American Legion Auxiliary and enjoyed crafts.

Surviving are three daughters, Alice “Sue” Allen of Fulton, Ruth “Dolly” Serow of Oswego and Dora “Butch” Serow of Mexico; a son, Leland Pelkey of Oswego; two sisters, Frankes Van Dusen and Dorothy Farlick of Michigan; 17 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her first husband, Leland Pelkey, in 1985; her second husband, Gerald Engle, in 1982; her son, Leslie Pelkey; a sister, Olive Lottahammer; and a brother, Lawrence Burdick.

Funeral services will be private and at the convenience of the family.

There are no calling hours.

Burial will be in Minetto Cemetery.

Arrangements are in care of the Dowdle Funeral Home.
