OSWEGO — Four SUNY Oswego candidates for the master of arts degree will display their work in an exhibition starting with a free public reception from 5 to 7 p.m. Nov. 30, in Tyler Art Gallery.
The fall Master of Arts Thesis Exhibition will run through Wednesday, Dec. 12, in conjunction with the fall Bachelor of Fine Arts Exhibition in Tyler Art Gallery and the Bachelor of Arts Exhibition in Room 201 of Tyler Hall.
‘Fermentation fetish’ — SUNY Oswego graduate student Gina Sherwood demonstrates her graphic design style and love of breweries in a poster that pays homage to her Festa Fellowship job last spring with BrewDog PLC, a Scottish brewer. The artwork is among that of four students in the fall Master of Arts Thesis Exhibition, opening at 5 p.m. Nov. 30, with a free public artists’ reception.
Exhibitors at the MA Thesis Exhibition will include Amanda Bernard of Ontario, graphic design; KayCie Danniel (Simmons) of Louisiana and Upstate New York, illustration and graphic design; Ian McCullough of Bemis Point, graphic design; and Gina Sherwood of Fulton, graphic design.
Bernard has worked to combine her background in photography with graphic design. She has an undergraduate degree in advertising photography. After receiving her master’s degree in December, she plans to continue working with Oswego’s Office of Admissions as a transfer counselor, and would like to work as a freelance graphic designer and photographer.
Danniel completed her bachelor of fine arts degree at Oswego in 2011. She said her passion for cartooning informs all of her artistic works, whether in design, illustration or animation. She has served as a teacher assistant, interned with ILoveNY tourism, free-lanced for Oswego Business magazine, showcased her work at the International Digital Media Arts Association in Miami and had a solo exhibition at the SUNY Oswego Metro Center.
McCullough, who currently works in graphic design for Isca Design Studio in Oswego, said he believes a competitive environment is healthy for growth as an artist, and that communication is the cornerstone for success in any business or relationship, so with his creative talents, visual communication design was an “obvious choice.”
A self-described “fermentation fetishist,” Sherwood currently works with the state Brewer’s Association and Empire Brewing Co. in Syracuse. She received a Festa Fellowship this spring to intern at the BrewDog PLC brewery in Fraserburgh, Scotland, and the building site for the company’s new brewery in Ellon.
In addition to working to maintain the company’s identity, Sherwood served as media coordinator and public relations liaison.
Tyler Art Galley is open 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays.

Parking at SUNY Oswego is by permit only. Gallery visitors may purchase – either online or at the college’s parking office near the main entrance on State Route 104 – a $1 visitor permit to park in Lot E-18, the southern half of the lot behind Hart and Funnelle residence halls.
