Jury Convicts Man in Christmas Day Slashing

An Oswego County Court jury convicted Michael Reitz Tuesday of the Christmas Day attack that left his ex-girlfriend scarred.

He was found guilty of burglary, assault and endangering the welfare of a child.

Last Christmas Day, Michelle Chambers was confronted in her New Haven home by a man wearing a mask.  Though she couldn’t see his face, she recognized his eyes, voice and walk as those of Reitz, her former boyfriend, she testified.

He slashed her face with a knife, leaving a permanent scar.

Chief Assistant District Attorney Mark Moody said that Reitz was upset that Chambers was seeing other men.

Testimony from the trial showed that DNA from Reitz was found mixed with Chambers’ DNA on the pants she wore on the day of the attack.

Reitz faces up to 25 years in prison on the burglary and assault charges.  He will be sentenced January 4.  Until then, he will remain in jail without bail, officials said.
