Christmas in Mexico Celebrates all this Weekend

By: Joleene DesRosiers Moody, Contributing Writer
MEXICO, NY – Christmas is on its way to the village of Mexico and is bringing a favorite holiday story with it. Celebrating its ninth season, Christmas in Mexico promises fun character interaction, shopping and crafts, pictures with Santa, and a coloring contest for the children.

“Friends of Bob Cratchit will play an interactive roll during the event and we encourage everyone to play along,” Lucinda Brown said, organizer of Friends of Bob Cratchit. “All of the characters from Charles Dickens’ Christmas Carol will be there. Its fun to walk through the village and look for the chimney sweeps, shoppers, strolling business men, orphans and peasants.”

Jessica J. Hofschulte of The Main Event is chairperson of Christmas in Mexico. She said it has grown significantly over the last decade, drawing more and more people every year.

“Originally, Christmas in Mexico was a gathering of shoppers for various church bazaars, Hofschulte said. “It grew from there to offer family friendly activities. This year, other than roaming and shopping with the characters, visitors can see our parade followed by the lighting of the village Christmas tree.”

Santa will also make an appearance.

There will be church bazaars, special offers by local merchants, horse-drawn carriage rides, caroling and Friends of Bob Cratchit wandering the village in period costume.
