Fulton, NY – The Step By Step Wellness Program invites community members to an Open House for its Young Empowered Adults group.

Scheduled for February 26 from 4 to 6:30 p.m., the open house will be held inside Catholic Charities, 365 W. First St.

Established exclusively for young adults, the Young Empowered Adults group (YEA!) benefits those between the ages of 18 and 25 who have been diagnosed with a chronic mental illness and are beginning to live more independently.

“The YEA! group provides an opportunity for young adults with a chronic mental illness to come together with other young adults for peer support and programming designed to meet their unique needs,” said Pam Peeling, coordinator of the Step By Step Wellness Program.

“Our open house is open to anyone interested in learning more about our Young Empowered Adults group and the Step By Step Wellness Program, including providers, clients and their families, and community members,” added Peeling.

According to Peeling, the Young Empowered Adults group addresses a number of pertinent issues including; independent living, transitional employment and education services, goal planning, anger management, self-advocacy and social supports.  Additionally, activities such as music and art therapy, and computer access are also available.

“As part of our Step By Step Program, the Young Empowered Adults group uses recovery based programming to offer a supportive and educational environment.  Our staff works closely with each of our clients to ensure that they gain the necessary skills to achieve a greater independence,” said Peeling.

“Our open house offers those that attend with an opportunity to discover what the Young Empowered Adults group and the Step By Step Program are all about.  Please join us for snacks, freebies, and chance to learn more about a very valuable program that truly benefits those it serves,” added Peeling.
