Set in a remote corner of the Louisiana bayou, the film tells the story of six-year-old Hushpuppy.

“Buoyed by her childish optimism and extraordinary imagination, she believes that the natural world is in balance with the universe until a fierce storm changes her reality. Desperate to repair the structure of her world in order to save her ailing father and sinking home, this tiny hero must learn to survive unstoppable catastrophes of epic proportions.” (Fox Searchlight Pictures)

Beasts of the Southern Wild garnered a Best Picture nomination. The film stars Quvenzhané Wallis (who, at 9, was the youngest performer ever nominated for Best Actress). Behn Zeitlin (26 at the time he made this film, his first feature) was nominated for both Best Director and co-writer for Best Adapted Screenplay.

The Academy Award ceremony is February 24.

The event is open to the public.

Following the screening, all are invited to stay and join in a discussion of the film.
