Carl A. Bishop, 84

OSWEGO, NY – Carl A. Bishop, 84, of Scriba, passed away on Thursday March 7, 2013, in University Hospital, Syracuse.

Mr. Bishop was born in Oswego to the late Carl E. and Mary (McGraw) Bishop.

He attended Oswego schools and graduated from Oswego High School in 1948.

He was a US army veteran where he served in the 25th infantry division for two years in Korea.

He worked as a maintenance painter at SUNY Oswego for more than 27 years.

Carl was predeceased by his wife of 46 years, Barbara (Teasley) Bishop; and his brothers, Donald, Robert, James and Thomas Bishop.

Carl is survived by his sister, Carol (Frank) Bartello of Oswego; and several nieces and nephews.

He enjoyed reading, gardening, hunting and spending time with family and friends.

Funeral services will be Monday 9 a.m. at the Sugar & Scanlon Funeral Home, 147 W. Fourth St., Oswego.

Spring burial will be in Peck Cemetery, Scriba.

There will be no calling hours.

Contributions may be made in Mr. Bishop’s name to St. Mary’s Church Preservation Fund, 103 W. Seventh. St., Oswego, NY.

GRB Class of 1968 will hold 45th Reunion

The G. Ray Bodley Class of 1968 will hold its 45th reunion, one-day event on August 10 from 1-5 p.m. at Fulton Elks on Pierce Drive, Fulton. There will be a chicken barbecue and all the fixin’s! $15 per person. Reservations needed by July 1.

HUD Awards More Than $2 Million In Housing Counseling Grants

Two agencies in Oswego County will share in the funding. The City of Fulton Community Development Agency is in line to receive $16,690. And, the Oswego Housing Development Council, in Parish, will receive $16,321. Both provide housing assistance.

Sandy Creek Softball Team Section III Champs

The Sandy Creek Varsity Girls’ Softball team may have lost their bid to be State Champions, but that did not dim their accomplishments in the eyes of their school, their coaches, their families and their community. In a district Board of Education recognition ceremony, they were honored for their accomplishments including the Section III Championship title.
