OSWEGO, NY – The H. Lee White Marine Museum is presenting a Lighthouse Movie Night on April 25 at 6:30 p.m.
The film to be shown is the 1936 version of “Captain January” starring Shirley Temple.
The movie is based on the book, The Lighthouse at Cape Tempest by Laura E. Richards.
This version is a remake of the original 1924 silent film that starred Baby Peggy.
The original black-and-white feature can now be viewed as a computer-colorized version.
Child star Shirley Temple stars as Helen “Star” Mason, a child rescued from the sea by lighthouse keeper, Captain January. The two form an inseparable bond and withstand the challenges that are thrown at them.
“This is our second season partnering with the Beacon Hotel to offer a classic film in a beautifully restored historic setting. We hope the public will embrace the lighthouse theme.” said Mercedes Niess, the Marine Museum’s executive director.
The showing will be held at 75 W. Bridge St. at the Beacon Hotel.
Popcorn will be provided courtesy of Zurich Cinemas.
Soda will also be available.
There are 50 free tickets, which will be distributed on a first-come-first-serve basis.
Tickets can be picked up at two locations in Oswego: the H. Lee White Marine Museum, located at the end of the West First Street Pier, and the river’s end bookstore, located at 19 W. Bridge St.
The annual “Movie Night” is just one of many events offered by the H. Lee White Marine Museum.
Its upcoming “History Lecture Series” will feature several local historians and marine-enthusiasts.
As the warmer months approach, the museum will have offer a host of activities for the community to enjoy.
