Bernard D. ‘Bum’ Carey, 80

PHOENIX, NY – Bernard  D. “Bum” Carey, 80, of County Route 6, Schroeppel, (Phoenix), NY, died on Friday June 7, 2013, at the Manor at Seneca Hill, Volney.

He was born to his late parents, Myrtle P. (Mason) and Henry Carey on June 3, 1933.

He was a heavy equipment operator for the village of Phoenix, Department of Public Works, for 30 years, retiring in 1995.

Bum was an avid hunter and bullhead fisherman.

He was predeceased by his sister, Marjorie Hudson, in 1990.

Surviving are his loving wife of 44 years, Marion (Miller) Carey; five children and their spouses, Cindy L. and Lynn Shaw of Adams, NY, Jack Scott of Pennellville, Gale and Tim Riddell of Phoenix, Dale Carey of Phoenix and Tammy Davis of Phoenix; 17 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Jane Lawler of Phoenix  and Patricia Carey of Oswego; four brothers, Clarence Carey of Mt. Washington, Kentucky, Emerson Carey of Cicero, Charles Carey of Fulton and Christopher Carey of Huntington Beach, Calif.; several nieces, nephews, cousins.

Services will be conducted on Tuesday at 6 p.m. in the Allanson-Glanville-Tappan Funeral Home, 431 Main St., Phoenix.

Calling hours will be from 4 to 6 p.m. the same day, prior to the service in the funeral home.

Burial, future date,  at the convenience of the family.
