OSWEGO – Mayor Billy Barlow announced a public information session on Monday at 3 p.m. at Oswego City Hall to unveil details on the city of Oswego State Route 104 Complete Streets Project.

The $1.5 million project will transform three blocks along State Route 104 through downtown Oswego and was one of many projects funded through Governor Andrew Cuomo’s Downtown Revitalization Initiative in 2016.

Construction for the “complete streets” project will begin in early September along with the New York State Department of Transportation repave of State Route 104 this summer.

The Complete Streets project will implement new curbing, in-ground flower beds, new bilco doors, enhanced crosswalks, benches and new flower boxes between Water Street and West Third Street along Route 104.

There will also be a new staircase built on the Bridge Street bridge down to the West Linear River Walk to allow for easier direct access to the riverfront.

“State Route 104 is a large highway running directly down the middle of our downtown directly hindering our downtown revitalization efforts. Our Complete Streets project will introduce traffic calming measures, pedestrian friendly features, more green space and beautification projects along Route 104 through our downtown transforming this area and improving accessibility to our entire downtown,” said Mayor Barlow. “The goal of this project is to aesthetically improve our core downtown and encourage pedestrians to cross State Route 104 and explore our entire downtown small business community. This project compliments the many other projects we see coming to fruition in our downtown due to Governor Cuomo’s Downtown Revitalization Initiative and I am excited to get these large projects started.”

The public information session will describe the details of the State Route 104 Complete Streets project and will ask for input, opinions and concerns from meeting attendees.

The meeting will be hosted by Mark Budosh from Barton and Loguidice who designed the project.

The meeting is set for June 25 at 3 p.m. in the Common Council Chambers located in Oswego City Hall, 13 W. Oneida St., Oswego
