Additional $75,000 Earmarked For Oswego Lighthouse Restoration Project

OSWEGO – On Thursday, June 21, the H. Lee White Maritime Museum and Oswego Mayor Billy Barlow will host an historic plaque dedication ceremony at the Oswego Lighthouse to recognize the historic Oswego landmark.

In 2000, the Oswego Lighthouse was placed on the national register through the efforts of the Heritage Foundation of Oswego County.

Thanks to a grant from the William J. Pomeroy Foundation, a plaque to recognize the significance of this historic building will be dedicated on the building.

The mayor will be joined at the ceremony by H. Lee White Maritime Museum Director Mercedes Niess, the Oswego Lighthouse Restoration Committee, Oswego County Legislature Chairman Shane Broadwell, Oswego County Legislators and Oswego Common Council.

In addition, Mayor Barlow will officially announce $75,000 in funding from the city of Oswego to paint the exterior of the lighthouse.

The $75,000 is in addition to the $100,000 already pledged by Assemblyman Will Barclay.

The city is currently developing the RFP (request for proposals) to issue for the work to be done on the exterior of the lighthouse due to be released the week of June 25.
