Catholic Charities Announces Fresh Food Distribution

Nov 04, 2009 at 8:05 am

FULTON, NY – On Nov. 11 the Emergency Services Program of Catholic Charities of Oswego County in cooperation with the Food Bank of Central New York will sponsor a fresh food distribution.

Fresh foods and produce will be available, free of charge to those in need, from 4 until 6 p.m. or until food is gone.

Please bring your own bags or boxes.

Distribution will be at the Elks Lodge, 57 Pierce Drive.

Catholic Charities is now using a new system, supported by the Food Bank of CNY, which allows for an easier method of food distribution.

Those in attendance will receive a number from a random drawing that will take place approximately twenty minutes prior to the beginning of the food distribution.

The number will determine that person’s place in line and alleviate the need for people to come to the food distribution hours in advance to be among the first in line.

The new system allows for a much more equitable distribution of the food on hand so that those who are unable to wait for hours will still have an equal opportunity to receive food.

For more information, call Helen Hoefer at 598-3980.

Catholic Charities food pantry and thrift shop will be closed for remodeling on Nov. 11, 12, and 13 but will reopen on Nov, 16 and will be open daily from 9 a.m. to noon and 1 to 3 p.m.

Catholic Charities of Oswego County serves all people in need regardless of their religious affiliation.

Primary funding sources for Catholic Charities of Oswego County programs are the United Way of Greater Oswego County, the Diocesan Hope Appeal, the County of Oswego and private donations by individuals and local companies and organizations.
