FULTON, NY – As warmer weather slowly approaches, summer fun is on the minds of Central New York residents.
In Fulton, that means camping at North Bay campground on Lake Neatahwanta.
Earlier this year, the Granby Town Board unanimously agreed to pass a resolution to annex the campground into Fulton city limits.
Shortly after, the Fulton Common Council unanimously passed a resolution to accept the campground along with 30 acres of marshland into the city.
The City of Fulton has owned North Bay Campground for 50 years, however, the property has always been located within the Town of Granby.
The City of Fulton has paid combined taxes to the Town of Granby as long as the city has owned the campground.
With this agreed annexation, there will be no payment required to change city lines considering the property is contiguous to the city, Fulton Mayor Ronald Woodward Sr. said.
Woodward estimates a savings of roughly $10,000 per year in taxes, with additional savings available through grant opportunities for improvements.
City officials were formerly unable to apply for grant opportunities from NYS Parks, Recreation, and Historic Preservation without the property being in the city limits.
“We’ll be able to put permanent things there like cabins and not get taxed on it,” Woodward said.
Aside from cabins, Woodward anticipates offering more campsites, adding water and sewer lines, and incorporating a boardwalk into the additional 30 acres of marshland.
Currently, the campground offers 36 seasonal sites at $850.00 per season, 32 electric sites at $23.00 per night, 11 non-electric sites at $20.00 per night, and visitors passes for $3.00. There are additional weekly and monthly rates for available sites.
It also offers men and women’s bathhouse with restrooms, playground area, sand volleyball area, small basketball court, small store and game room as well as a boat launch area for $3.00 per launch and boat docking available, Fulton Parks and Recreation Supervisor Barry Ostrander said.
With continued dredging of Lake Neatahwanta, eventual swimmable conditions of the lake will help restore the campground to its former glory.
“This intermunicipal agreement will allow us to enhance recreational activities at North Bay and make it more affordable to do it, not just for Fulton but anyone in the area that wants to use it,” Woodward said.

No eutrophic lake has ever been brought back to life . HAB’s are here to stay unless Tannery Creek’s outflow increases to 100 cfs.
Here we go again..first off the Septic system sucks.. second off..the bathroom.you can look from the men’s room into the woman’s..then you say a Sandy Beach witch is full of duck s__t..then the lake ..are you kidding me..there is no cable no wifi..and you charge that kind of money..why does a city tax payer have to pay to park there and fish…this regime HAS TO GO..the campground..if you ain’t in the click then they won’t even speak to you..the complaint about the traffic making dust…maybe Woodward should get out and go look at other campgrounds..come on Fulton WAKE UP..
The City of Fulton has potholes as as large North Bay Campground. If there isn’t enough tax dollars to repair and repave the City streets, then where is the money coming from to put sewers throughout the campground? Oh the city leaders themselves must of forgotten, that there seems to be some sewer problems within the city itself!!
