Youth Bureau is Accepting Applications for Summer AmeriCorps Positions

OSWEGO COUNTY – Oswego AmeriCorps is recruiting to fill summer positions that will help children and youth have healthier futures by providing fitness activities and nutrition education.

Some AmeriCorps members will manage youth or adult volunteers, while some members will provide housing services for economically disadvantaged individuals.

Applications are currently being accepted for 300-hour summer positions to work with youth and/or volunteers.

Members spend the summer helping their community while earning a pay check and an education award.

For the 300-hour summer positions, members receive a total of $2,208 in living allowance paid through bi-weekly pay checks.

When the term of service is completed, the member receives an education award of $1,252 that can be used for tuition or student loans at qualified institutions.

For AmeriCorps, applicants must be at least 17 years old, have a high school diploma or GED or be working to achieve one of those.

Each site can have additional work experience and education requirements for applicants.

Positions are available at these locations: Camp Foundations (Oswego); Camp Hollis Day Camp (Oswego); The Children’s Museum of Oswego; Constantia Recreation (Taft Bay Park); Fulton City Parks; Fulton CYO; Fulton Family YMCA; Fulton Public Library; Harborfest (Oswego); OCO Nutrition Services (Hamilton Homes in Oswego); Oswego Bookmobile; Oswego City Parks; Selkirk Shores State Park; Town/Village of Hannibal; USTA Tennis; and the Youth Bureau Springboard Mural Project/Little Free Libraries.

Oswego AmeriCorps also has openings for 300- or 900-hour positions to provide housing services to economically disadvantaged individuals/families.

These are located at Catholic Charities in Fulton, Victory Transformation in Oswego, and Oswego County Opportunities in Oswego.

For OCO positions, applicants must have a driver’s license and access to reliable transportation.

For a 900-hour position the living allowance is $6,627 and the education award is $2,960.
