Mary West, 86

FULTON, NY – Mary C. West, 86, of Fulton, passed away on Friday, May 31, 2019, at Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse after a brief illness.

She was born in Fulton, a daughter to the late Alex and Mary Makowick Czeriak and was a graduate of Fulton High School in 1951.

Mary worked many years for the Lanigan Elementary lunch program, then as a nutrition aide, eventually retiring from the Fulton Patriot as the secretary after 25 years.

After retirement, she started working again greeting visitors at the Granby Elementary School front desk.

She enjoyed playing bingo and bowling, earning a spot in the Fulton Bowler’s Hall of Fame.

She was also a life member of the Fulton Polish Home.

Mary was predeceased by her husband of 60 years, Frank B. “Brooks” West Sr.; sisters, Anna Burnett, Catherine Barsuch, Julia Rowe; and brother, John Czeriak.

She will forever be loved and missed by her children, Frank “Brooks” West Jr., Louise (Allan) Ritchey, Mark (Terri) West, Mary Ellen (Timothy Davis) West, and Timothy (Marcellina) West; grandchildren, Gregory (Shannon) Robinson, Jeffrey (Jessica) Robinson, Henry Davis, Harrison Davis, Benicio West and Tula West; great-granddaughter, Alyssa Robinson; and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be from 4-7 p.m. on Tuesday, June 4, at Foster Funeral Home, 910 Fay St., Fulton.

A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, June 5, in St. Mary’s Cemetery, South Seventh Street, Fulton.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association http://www.diabetes.org/donate/ in Mary’s memory.

  1. I am very sorry to hear of Mary’s passing, she was a very sweet and kind person. My deepest condolences to Frank, Louise, Mark, Mary Ellen, Tim, and their familes.

  2. Mrs. West was truly sweet, kind and fun. Like many others of her generation who made Fulton the great place it was to grow up, has taken yet another little piece of it with her and it and she will be greatly missed! Thank you Mrs. West for the lovely memories (and recipes) Rest in glorious peace.
