Farnham Family Services Welcomes New Staff

OSWEGO, New York – Farnham Family Services has announced the appointment of five new staff positions, according to Jeanne M. Unger, MS, Executive Director of the Oswego-based non-profit, chemical dependence outpatient substance abuse clinic, with school-based prevention and student assistance counseling services.

Maria Burnswick, Penny Morley, Joel Monahan, Darlene Bisesi, and Linda Fischer were recently appointed to new positions at Farnham Family Services.

“We are very pleased to announce these new appointments,” said Unger. “They all hold a wealth of experience and enthusiasm that embodies what Farnham Family Services is all about. Each of them will be a vital member to our organization’s success.”

Maria Burnswick has joined on as an Intake Coordinator. A resident of Oswego, Burnswick holds a degree in Business Administration from Cayuga Community College. A volunteer for American Red Cross teaching CPR and first aid, Brunswick was also a member of their Disaster Action Team.

Penny Morley, the new Prevention Counselor at the Oswego High School, previously worked for Farnham Family Services as a Student Assistance Counselor throughout Oswego County. Since than, she has worked as a school counselor for Mexico Middle School as well as APW Middle and High School. Morley looks forward to helping students at Oswego High School be successful both emotionally and academically.

Joel Monahan will be working with the clinical team as a therapist. Monahan is a graduate of Corning Community College with an Associates Degree in Applied Sciences in Criminal Justice as well as a graduate of SUNY Buffalo with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. Monahan is a recent recipient of the Thomas H. Chapman award for dedication to the field and enthusiasm towards the wellness model. A current graduate student at SUNY Oswego, Monahan is working towards a Masters Degree in Mental Health Counseling. He hopes to pursue a Doctoral degree in Counselor Education and subsequently be a college professor.

Joel Monahan

Darlene Bisesi, a new Clinical Therapist, graduated from Hofstra University with a BA in Psychology. In addition, she holds an MA in Psychology from Adelphi University. Darlene previously worked in Employee Relations as a counselor before moving back to central New York from Brooklyn.

Linda Fischer, MS, CASAC, has been appointed Student Assistance Counselor on the Farnham Family Services’ Prevention Team. Fischer, who was previously with Farnham from 1998-99, had been serving as the Substance Abuse Prevention Coordinator for the Central Square Central Schools from 2000-2008.

Darlene Bisesi

Linda has held a certificate for the NYS CASAC (Credentialed Alcohol Substance Abuse Council) since 1999. As a double major, she graduated from SUNY Oswego in 1994 with a BA in interpersonal communications and psychology. She earned an MS from SUNY Oswego in 1996 in human services/counseling with a specialty track in substance abuse treatment. In addition, she was the Case Manager for Syracuse Behavioral Healthcare from 1997-98.

Established in 1971, Farnham Family Services is a United Way agency that offers prevention services, school-based student assistance and treatment services to all residents of Oswego and surrounding counties. All services are licensed by the New York State Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services.
