Catholic Charities Offers Workshop For Parents Of Children With Special Needs

FULTON, NY – Program supervisor for the Parent Education Program at Catholic Charities of Oswego County, Andrea Burritt, announced the agency will soon be offering a new parenting workshop designed specifically for parents of children with special needs.

The workshop will teach parents the skills needed to effectively deal with the emotions related to having a child with special needs, as well as the social and educational needs of their special needs child.

The Parenting Children with Special Needs workshop will focus on the following topics:

How to deal with the emotional roller coaster of raising a child with Special Needs
Effective strategies for Early Intervention to access the services that parents and their children need to have a positive emotional and educational growth.
How to be the best advocate your child can have.

“This workshop will provide parents with special children with valuable information and strategies that they will be able to implement immediately to help improve their relationship with their children. I encourage parents and caregivers of children with special needs to attend this informative workshop,” said Burritt.

The workshop will be held Wednesdays from 9 to 11:30 a.m. at Catholic Charities, 365 W. First St., beginning Aug. 18 and continuing through Sept. 1.

Parent educator Jessica Duschen and kinship support coordinator Jon Gilmore will facilitate the workshop.

While the workshop is free and open to the public, space is limited.
