The Oswego Lions Club presents “Roar with Laughter” with Headliner Paul Morrissey and warm up comedian Erick James, Friday, January 28th at the American Foundry, 246 West Seneca Street, in Oswego. Doors will open at 7:00 pm.; show begins at 8:00 pm.

“We continue a Lions Club tradition once again this year with a great night of laughs,” said Bob Bateman, Oswego Lions Club President. “This event has always been a popular fund-raiser and we anticipate that this will be another great one

The event is a major fund-raiser for the local service organization. This fund raiser helps to support ongoing programs and services throughout the Oswego community for the visually and hearing impaired. Proceeds from past fund-raising events have helped to support Camp Rainbow of Hope, Make a Wish Foundation, Oswego Salvation Army, The ER’s Children Fund at Oswego Hospital, Oswego Library Capital Campaign, The Children’s Hospital in Syracuse, and Habitat for Humanity, to name just a few.

This year, the adult themed comedy night will show case Headliner Paul Morrissey and warm up comedian Erick James. Paul was raised as a sports fanatic in the tiny town of Owego, in upstate New York.

In 2005, Paul was selected to perform at the HBO Comedy Festival in Las Vegas. Morrissey has also been a finalist in several national comedy competitions including Wendy’s Comedy Challenge, Comedy Central’s Open Mic Fight and Maxim’s Real Men of Comedy.

Morrissey’s big break came in June 2006, when he made his network television debut on “The Late, Late Show with Craig Ferguson” on CBS. He was so well received that Paul was asked to make a second appearance on the show in March 2007, and yet a third in September 2007. Morrissey’s three appearances are the most by a comedian on “The Late, Late Show” during the past year.

The recent TV exposure has put Paul in high demand as a headliner at clubs and colleges across the US and Canada. He also performs frequently at The Comedy & Magic Club in Hermosa Beach, Laugh Factory, The Hollywood Improv, and Comedy Death Ray at the UCB Theater in Los Angeles.

Warm Up comedian Erick James. A comedian, actor, magician, and improv artist, this former college hockey player and engineering student approaches comedy with both a playful innocence and a hard-edged analytical point of view. Whether he’s talking about turning mathematics and physics into comedy material, reflecting on the perils of being turned into 24-hour tech support by a computer-challenged mother, or using hockey analogies for dating, Erick’s unique and ironic way of looking at life gives audiences something to laugh – and think – about. His physical act-outs and character voices tell a hilarious story of a recovering geek trying to understand the world and make his place in it. Erick’s boyish, likable persona makes it easy for him to connect with audiences, and his amusement over life, people, and himself makes others happy when he takes the stage.

Erick received his BS in Mechanical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute followed by a graduate diploma in Management Studies from Cambridge University (UK) and started doing stand-up after realizing he didn’t do well in captivity. Now Erick features and headlines at clubs across the East coast as well as working colleges and corporate functions.

“The performances of Morrissey and James promise to bring the crowd a good hour of laughs,” said Chris Pelton, chairperson of the event. Tickets will be available at the door the night of the event, or can be purchased prior to the show at the following locations: Cakes Galore and More, The Car Shop, and Century 21 Leah’s for $10.00. Anyone interested in purchasing tickets or looking for more information about the show can also contact Pelton @ 343-1394, or visit http://oswegony.lionwap.org. Last year we had a sellout crowd, so “Get your tickets early”
