Brophy Services Inc, Central New York’s largest locally owned and operated commercial janitorial and office cleaning service contractor, was selected recently to participate in Syracuse University’s Whitman School of Management’s Corporate Entrepreneurship class, said Eileen L. Brophy, president.

Alexander McKelvie, assistant professor of Entrepreneurship, teaches the class. “The purpose of the course is to understand how and why existing corporations behave entrepreneurially beyond their startup,” McKelvie said.
“The main purpose of the course involves a small group of students working with a local innovative firm to learn about how the company acts entrepreneurially and also to provide concrete suggestions as to how to increase the entrepreneurial spirit at the company.”
Syracuse University (SU) undergraduate students who will be working with Brophy include: Julie Masson, Mike Brocks, Lauren Monxelos, Greg Davis and Sharlene Pozza. According to McKelvie, the students will meet with Brophy four or five times during the spring semester and talk to many of the different employees at various levels of the firm. The students will give Brophy Services a written report and invite Brophy and members of her team to a private presentation of the report at SU at the end of the semester.
“This course was offered once before and the students found it to be a wonderful experience,” McKelvie said. “The participating companies also appreciated the chance to get an outsider’s viewpoint and some potentially useful recommendations, without sacrificing a lot of time.”
