Oswego Man Facing Felony Drug Charges

OSWEGO, NY – The Oswego Police Department today announced one more in a growing list of drug related arrests.

At approximately 5:21 p.m. on March 22, as a result of ongoing investigations into illegal drug activity, members of the Oswego City Police Department Criminal Investigations Division executed search warrants at 1965 County Route 1, Oswego, and also at an associated storage unit located at 2044 County Route 1.

Also assisting were members of the Oswego City Police Department Uniform Patrol Division and a United States Border Patrol K-9 unit.

As a result of the search warrants, evidence was seized from both locations consisting of nearly $12,000 in cash, approximately 1.5 pounds of marijuana, numerous prescription narcotics and numerous items of paraphernalia commonly used in the production and sale of illegal drugs.

Uell K. Smithers, A.K.A. ‘Vell,’ 77, of 1965 County  Route 1, was arrested and charged with third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a class B felony; and second-degree criminal possession of marijuana, a class D felony.

Smithers was arraigned in Scriba Town Court and remanded to the Oswego County Correctional Facility without bail.
