Ashlee Danley wins scholarship at Paul Smith’s College baking competition

PAUL SMITHS, NY – Ashlee Danley, a student at G. Ray Bradley High School, won a $1,000 scholarship to Paul Smith’s College after placing third in a baking competition at Paul Smith’s College on March 3.

Danley, of Fulton, competed with nine other budding bakers at Paul Smith’s 15th annual Cooking for Scholarships competition.

Each contestant decorated a 9-inch cake, baked cookies, poached a pear and caramelized apples as part of the competition.

More than $24,000 in scholarships and prizes were awarded at the event, which was judged by a panel of Paul Smith’s faculty chefs. Baking scholarships are renewable for up to two years.

The competitors prepared their food at the Statler Foundation Culinary Training Facility on the Paul Smith’s campus. That building includes seven culinary laboratories and is also home to the Wally Ganzi Jr. Restaurant Training Center, which is modeled after the renowned Palm restaurant steak houses.
