Buffalo Doubles Up Laker Women’s Lacrosse

OSWEGO, N.Y. – Karen Shaddock and Ashley Caporizzo provided a lethal 1-2 punch for Buffalo State, as the Bengals doubled up the Oswego State women’s lacrosse team, 22-11, Tuesday afternoon at South Athletic Field. Both players scored seven goals each, while also Shaddock tallied six assists. The Lakers (1-4, 0-2 SUNYAC) were paced by four goals from Erin Cummings (Sr., Valley Cottage, N.Y.).

Oswego State held a 2-1 lead after goals from Cummings and Becky Guess (Fr., Burnt Hills, N.Y.) five minutes into the contest. However, Buffalo State (8-3, 1-1 SUNYAC) scored five goals over the next six minutes to go ahead 6-2.

Cummings and Rachael Raffa (Sr., Kings Park, N.Y.) posted back-to-back goals to cut the deficit in half. Both squads traded markers for the duration of the first half with both Oswego State scores coming from Raffa and Kaila Curatalo (So., Rochester, N.Y.), as the Lakers went into halftime trailing, 9-6.

Corinne Marsh (So., Endwell, N.Y.) made it a two-goal contest in the opening minute of the second frame with a free position shot, but Shaddock and Caporizzo combined to score three of the next four Bengal goals as the visitors started to distance themselves from the home team.

Kasey Kuzma (Jr., Endicott, N.Y.) and Cummings netted goals for the Lakers before seven minutes had elapsed in the half to make the score, 14-9, but Buffalo State scored the next seven goals to put the game out of reach.

Candace Tarana (So., Rochester, N.Y.) stopped the string with under ten minutes to play with Cummings scoring the final Oswego State goal on a free position shot.

Ashlee Engel (Jr., Webster, N.Y.) suffered the loss after recording 11 saves and allowing 17 goals in nearly 43 minutes, while Lauren Marois (Jr., Clifton Park, N.Y.) made three saves and gave up five goals. Buffalo State’ Colleen George and Adi DiDuro combined to make nine saves.

Raffa’s two goals moved her into sole possession of fifth place on the program’s career points list at 158 to move past Annette Stead’s (1998-01) total of 156.
