Lake Yacht Racing Association’s annual regatta at Oswego Yacht Club

In August, the Oswego Yacht Club, a charter member club of LYRA, will host the 128th annual LYRA event for the first time since 1928.

LYRA-LogoBeginning July 27 Oswego will be the center of yacht racing on Lake Ontario. Racing begins Friday with the Annual Sail Oswego Regatta. Sail Oswego coincides with Harborfest, Oswego’s citywide celebration of live music, food, and a spectacular fireworks display Saturday night.

The 2012 LYRA regatta will begin July 30, with Oswego serving as the finish line for the Founders and Centennial Cup Feeder Races starting from the Rochester Yacht Club and the Henderson Harbor Yacht Club respectively.

The Freeman Cup long distance race will begin the evening of  Aug. 1, with course racing taking place Aug. 3 – 5.

Entertainment and other social events for participating sailors will be occurring continually at the Oswego Yacht Club and around the city of Oswego from July 27 – Aug. 4.

Skippers are encouraged to participate in both regattas then take the to opportunity to extend their sailing by cruising up to such popular destinations as Henderson Harbor, Sackets Harbor, Chaumont, Kingston Ontario and the Thousand Islands. This is also a great opportunity for the residents of Oswego to observe some of the finest racing on Lake Ontario and meet crews from all around the lake.
