Oswego State men’s lacrosse team falls to Geneseo

GENESEO, N.Y. – The Oswego State men’s lacrosse team (8-3, 1-3 SUNYAC) fell behind 8-1 after the first quarter, and was never able to get its offense going in a 20-6 decision to Geneseo (1-7, 1-1 SUNYAC) Saturday afternoon.

Blue Knight John Felix started the scoring under a minute into the game. Oswego State followed up with its only goal of the quarter on a shot by Chris Porten (So., Auburn, N.Y.), who had the ball fed to him by Cody Hoose (Fr., Syracuse, N.Y.). Geneseo’s Tim Burgess went on to score three of the next eight goals in the period, all of them unassisted, as the Lakers went into the second quarter trailing 8-1.

Fourty-five seconds into the second quarter, senior Britt Leone (Schenectady, N.Y.) scored an unassisted goal to pick up the team’s second goal. Geneseo scored five more goals in the second to go ahead 13-2.

Oswego State was held scoreless in the third quarter, while Geneseo picked up four more markers. John Wettack sent the ball to the back of the cage for the first and last goals of the quarter to give the Blue Knights a 17-2 advantage.

Hoose started off the fourth quarter with his second goal of the game after a pass from Casey Balzer (Jr., Nassau, N.Y.). Connor Khammar (Fr., Camillus, N.Y.) kept the intensity going by scoring the second goal of the quarter with Hoose earning the assist.

After a penalty on Oswego State, Geneseo picked up an 18-4 lead as Brent Lawless posted the home team’s first man-up goal of the game.

Oswego State rallied again five minutes in with a marker by Balzer after a pass from Brandon Dzwonkowski (Fr., Syracuse, N.Y.). Balzer later found Hoose with a pass on a Geneseo penalty to score the Lakers’ sixth goal of the game. However, Geneseo registered the last two goals of the game.

Oswego State goalie Ian O’Brien (Sr., Schenectady, N.Y.) registered five saves in the first half for the loss, while Jason Ketchoyian (Fr., Binghamton, N.Y.) tallied ten stops in the second half.
