Oswego, NY – The United States Army has formed a sponsorship alliance with the Tri-Oswego 2012 Triathlon, scheduled for June 16th in Oswego, New York, according to Shane Broadwell, Tri-Oswego Race Director.

The United States Army Recruiting Station, under the direction of Station Commander Brian Gibson, SSG, US Army, is taking the lead role in their plans for the Tri-Oswego event.

According to Staff Sergeant Gibson, the US Army will be contributing transition towels for the Tri-Oswego athletes, and will also be providing a variety of fitness and health-related activities, displays including the United States Army H3 Hummer, as well as numerous United States Army recruits as volunteers for the event.

“We are pleased to be a part of this new event within the Oswego community,” said Gibson. “Athleticism plays a vital part of what the United States Army does on a daily basis. This makes perfect sense for us, and we are glad to have the opportunity to use the Tri-Oswego venue as a way of connecting with our community, and demonstrating the Army’s many diverse benefits.”

The USA Triathlon sanctioned event will include a Sprint, Intermediate, and Sprint Relay Tri race once again this year, and will include a variety of other activities including a Health and Wellness Expo, Novelis Kids’ Fun Run, Youth Bicycle Rodeo, Zumba and Yoga for kids, Inflatable Bounce Houses, music, and more.

“What an amazing new partnership we have this year with the United States Army,” said Broadwell. “We are looking forward to their activities at the event, and greatly appreciate the contributions of Staff Sergeant Gibson, the United States Army Recruiting Station in Oswego, and their many recruits and volunteers.
