Wear It! Oswego, NYS Parks to Hold Boating Safety Day at Wright’s Landing Marina

OSWEGO, NY – The Wear It! Oswego campaign and New York State Parks will sponsor a Boating Safety Day on July 30 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event will take place at Wright’s Landing Marina in Oswego.

“During the event we will have our boating safety rolling display available so individuals can explore how to boat safely,” said Rob Woodard, boating safety educator for New York State Parks’ Marine Services Bureau. “The public also is invited to come and sign the Wear It! pledge, receive a free safety whistle for your life jacket, as well as the chance to win one of 10 inflatable life jackets.”

Life Jacket Loaner Program

Wright’s Landing also is home to the Life Jacket Loaner Program. The city reminds residents and visitors alike that they can borrow life jackets, free, for private events such as birthday parties, backyard pool gatherings or other water-related activities.

“We want everyone who recreates on or near water to be safe. So we strongly encourage people to take advantage of our free Life Jacket Loaner Program,” said Jeff McCrobie, Oswego Fire Chief. “In fact, individuals can visit Wright’s Landing Marina to loan a personal flotation device or they can contact the Oswego Fire Department directly at 315-343-2161 if they want to borrow a life jacket from our eastside fire station at 35 E. Cayuga St.”

Life jackets are available for rental daily at Oswego’s Wright’s Landing Marina.

In order to be loaned a life jacket, borrowers must sign a waiver form and leave a valid driver’s license. Each borrower is required to sign the waiver form (except children under the age of 18, who require permission and signature of a parent or legal guardian).

Borrowed life jackets must be returned by the end of each day to the same location at Wright’s Landing Marina or the fire station.

For additional information, contact the fire department or Wright’s Landing Marina at 315-342-8186.
