The Literacy Coalition of Oswego County has launched a new informational video promoting the mission of the organization, as well as the programs currently in place. The video can be viewed online on the Literacy Coalition’s homepage at www.OswegoCounty.com
This summer the Oswego YMCA bookmobile is traveling regular weekly routes throughout the Oswego City School District providing students with opportunities to select free books they can keep and at the same time encourage continued reading.
Here is a look back at some of the scenes from this week in and around Oswego.
The mission of the bookmobile is really quite simply. It’s about getting books to kids and empowering them to be great readers, organizers said. It will also prevent regression of students’ reading abilities over the summer, they added.
Throughout the district, books are being collected to help stock the new vehicle. The goal of the program is to encourage youngsters to continue reading over the summer so they don’t lose the skills they learned in school.
