Recently, the Oswego Common Council voted to triple the sewer rates for city residents. AT Monday night’s meeting, did the same thing for those Oswego Town residents who use the city’s west side wastewater treatment plant.
Earlier this school year, the city has been sending letters to parents of SUNY Oswego students who have been issued an appearance ticket or arrested in Oswego. The system is going well, according to Mayor Randy Bateman who has signed dozens of the form letters so far.
Over the past several days there have been many news articles concerning the 2010 City of Oswego Operating Budget.
Some of these articles have contained incorrect information. Mayor Randy Bateman said he would like to take this opportunity to clear up some of those errors.
Supporters of the city’s swimming pool made a big splash in front of the Common Council.In an attempt to save money in next year’s budget, councilors proposed closing the pool. More than 90 people attended a town hall meeting Thursday at the McCrobie Building. Included in that number were dozens of young children, many carrying signs that read: “Don’t be a fool – Don’t close our Pool,” “Swim Lessons Save Lives” and “Don’t Make Me Swim In The River” among other slogans. In an unofficial poll, the seven councilors said they’d support the pool in next year’s budget
Two Port City residents are facing felony drug charges. And, a joint effort in Wayne County the same day resulted in the discovery of an apparent clandestine methamphetamine laboratory. The drugs were reportedly earmarked for distribution in the county and city of Oswego.
Nominations are being accepted for the Oswego City School District “Friends of Education” and “Friend of Education” awards. The deadline for nominations is Aug. 26.
The Oswego City County Youth Bureau, in partnership with the Oswego County AmeriCorps Program, is sponsoring the second Family Fun Tennis Carnival.
She went out and documented the condition of all the sidewalks in the city. This way, she says, the city can’t say it doesn’t know where the potentially dangerous areas are.
This afternoon (July 14), Chief Warrant Officer 2 Ursula W. Walther, of the US Coast Guard station, presented Mayor Randy Bateman with the key to the historic landmark. After several years of waiting, city officials took ownership of the lighthouse.
The Fulton District Wide Storytelling Festival was held and storytellers from throughout the district showcased their talents in telling a wide variety of stories.
