At Monday night’s meeting of the Administrative Services Committee, councilors recommended a budget transfer to address the city’s skunk nuisance. The animal control officer requested a transfer of $8,000 to cover the cost of nuisance wildlife trapping services in the city for the 2017 trapping season provided by O’Gorman’s Wildlife Removal.
On Monday night, the Physical Services Committee gave a favorable recommendation to a business owner’s request for use of public space. However, just how much financial support the city should give this and other events was the topic of a lengthy debate. While some say the businesses should foot the bill for their events, others maintain that since the events benefit the city, the city should offer some support.
While the 2015 election seemed uneventful for Fulton voters, the results are in for the contested races in city council and legislature. Mayor Ronald Woodward Sr. ran uncontested as did three incumbent council seats in the first ward, fourth ward and sixth ward. However, the second ward, third ward and fifth ward saw one incumbent and five all new candidates running for their council seat.
One is regarding a proposed local law with respect to the city budget. Another deals with the Brittany Hill Planned Development District. The third public hearing is in regards to the Port City’s proposed tree ordinance. All three will be at City Hall on Nov. 28.
At its meeting Monday night, the Common Council will consider a resolution to join forces with the county in opposing the manufacture and sale of synthetic drugs, such as Happy Shaman. Last week, a county legislator urged the Common Council to approve a resolution similar to what the county recently passed.
Last weekend, we went to visit relatives in the Endicott, Endwell, Johnson City and Binghamton area. We were saddened by the flood damage to all four downtown areas. Being built between many mountains and valleys the river had little places to expand when the waters came pouring down.
Michael Smith, DPW commissioner, received a request from Greg Hausman, tournament director for Puckfest Hockey Tournaments, asking to hold an event at the Crisafulli Skating Rink the weekend of March 2, 3 and 4, 2012.
At its meeting Monday night, the Common Council saluted the Oswego High School Marching Buccaneers. Thousands of students and their parents have dedicated countless hours of to the marching band, Mayor Randy Bateman said. “On Saturday, Sept. 24, the Oswego High School Marching Band will celebrate their 33rd annual Pageant of Champions,” he added.
Starting this week, smokers will be asked to refrain from using Tobacco products at the Oswego Farmers’ market. The Tobacco Free Network of Oswego County, with the support of the city of Oswego, the Oswego County Health Department and the Greater Oswego-Fulton Chamber of Commerce, announced the market will be a tobacco-free event starting Aug. 25.
