Oswego School District Copes With State Aid Reduction

The governor announced Sunday that, because the state has run out of money, he is withholding $750 million in payments to school districts and others. Due to good planning, the Oswego district isn’t faced with any dire consequences at this time, the superintendent said. There is a great concern over the uncertainty of whether the withholding of the aid is permanent, he added.

Two individuals have been charged in connection with two of the four recent bomb threats at OMS and OHS; one of them a district staff member. “Students sometimes don’t understand the (full impact) of the choices that they make. To have this happen by a staff member … sent tremors through my body,” the superintendent said.



Investigation Continues Into Bomb Scare At Schools

Authorities are continuing to investigate two bomb scares at Oswego schools. Last week, there was a threat at Oswego Middle School. On Tuesday, the high school as well as the middle school was disrupted by bomb threats.

Superintendent introduces interim principal for the summer and fall. A new principal is expected to be in place by mid-October. The house system has been revamped, and students will be greeted by some new policies such as one prohibiting the use of electronic devices.

There are “some great things that are happening in the school district on a regular basis.” And, Superintendent Bill Crist said they deserve recognition. He cited several examples ranging from academics to the OHS newspaper to sports and music.

Bill Crist is expected to be named the district’s new superintendent at next month’s board of education meeting. The 1976 graduate of OHS was offered the position and accepted the offer, according to Dave White, school board president.

The new school chief should be someone with knowledge of, an interest in and a history with the Oswego community, the board said. They are also looking for a person who is upfront and honest, is a strong disciplinarian, a good communicator, trustworthy, and credible, among other attributes.

The story of the play concerns four affluent couples who gather for a dinner party celebrating their host’s tenth wedding anniversary. So, The Players plan to allow the audience to participate in the anniversary celebration by inviting patrons to attend a wine, and cheese, party before the curtain and sampling a anniversary cake at intermission.
