New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) Forest Rangers respond to search and rescue incidents statewide. Working with other state agencies, local emergency response organizations, and volunteer search and rescue groups, Forest Rangers locate and extract lost, injured, or distressed people from across New York State.

Become A 911 Telecommunicator And Help Your Community
The Oswego County E-911 Communications Center will host an open house for potential telecommunicator candidates on Saturday, Jan. 14. The event will run from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the facility at 39 Churchill Rd., Oswego.

The Oswego County E-911 Center reports that a widespread AT&T outage throughout New York State is impacting the ability of AT&T customers to call 911.

Emergency Notification Sirens Will Be Tested May 2 – 6
The Oswego County Emergency Management Office has announced that the system of emergency notification sirens surrounding the three nuclear power plants at Nine Mile Point are scheduled to be tested during the week of May 2 through 6 between 4 and 8 p.m.

Legislators Updated On 911 Enhancements, 5-Year plan
County legislators recently were updated on the work that’s under way on several of the new radio towers that will play a key role in upgrading Oswego County’s emergency radio communications system. The new interoperable radio system will be used by emergency responders to answer calls in all areas of the county – and across county lines. It will provide 97 percent coverage for portable radios used by emergency responders.

SKYWARN spotters support their local community and government by providing reports of severe weather directly to the National Weather Service in Buffalo through amateur radio or the NWS spotter hotline. The services performed by SKYWARN spotters have saved many lives.

County’s Planned Emergency Radio System Gets A Small Boost From Feds
Oswego County got a little bit of help Monday for its massive plan to rebuild its emergency communications system.
US Senator Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) announced that she has secured $200,000 for the project in the federal appropriations bill approved by the House and Senate over the weekend.
