‘Living Stations’ Set For March 22, G. Ray Bodley High School

Continuing the 25-year tradition, “Living Stations” will be presented March 22 at 7 p.m. in the G. Ray Bodley High School Auditorium. This dramatization of “The Way of the Cross” is the traditional Catholic prayer of Jesus’ passion as it portrays the final hours leading to His crucifixion.

The “Living Stations” will be presented Friday evening, March 22 at 7:00PM in the G. Ray Bodley HS Auditorium. This dramatization of “The Way of the Cross” is a re-enactment of the final hours leading to Jesus’ crucifixion. In last year’s presentation (above) Jesus was portrayed by Jeremy Langdon, and Christina Teetsel was Mary, His Mother. Choral performance is under the direction of Dolores Walrath. The evening’s performance is free and open to the public.

In the “Living Stations” local youth take on the roles of the various people in the traditional 14 scenes of the Stations of the Cross. Each scene features a series of readings and meditations and is a visual reminder of Christ’s suffering. Mark Pollock will portray Jesus and Vanessa Langdon will portray Mary. Choral works are under the direction of Dolores Walrath. The evening’s performance is free and open to the public.

Fulton Music Association Sponsors Free Nov. 3 Veterans Day Concert Featuring 10th Mt. Div Band

The U.S. Army’s 10^th Mountain Division Band from Fort Drum and the Fulton Community Band will perform a free concert in honor of Veterans Day, on Nov. 3, sponsored by the Fulton Music Association (FMA); it was announced by Steve Chirello, president.

The concert is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m. at the G. Ray Bodley High School auditorium. The Fulton Community Band and the U.S. Army 10th Mountain Division Band will perform two separate programs and combine for several numbers.”

The U.S. Army’s 10th Mountain Division Band from Fort Drum and the Fulton Community Band will perform a free concert in honor of Veterans Day, on Sat. Nov. 3, sponsored by the Fulton Music Association (FMA), it was announced by Steve Chirello, president. The concert is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m. at the G. Ray Bodley High School auditorium. The Fulton Community Band and the U.S. Army 10th Mountain Division Band will perform two separate programs and combine for an medley saluting our armed forces, and to play Sousa’s “Stars and Stripes Forever.” For information, contact Carol Fox, 591-3392.

Selections scheduled for performance by the 10^th Mountain Band include: Liberty Fanfare; National Anthem; Fnugg Blue, March 1941, West Side Story, The Flag Still Flies High and American Soldier. The 10^th Mountain and Fulton Community Band will together perform: American Salute; Armed Forces on Parade; and Stars and Stripes Forever March.

The Fulton Community Band will perform: The Great Race; Band of Brothers; Glenn Miller in Concert; Elegy For The U.S.S. Arizona; Lord of the Dance and The Black Granite.

The 10^th Mountain Division Band is based out of Fort Drum, NY and is commanded by Chief Warrant Officer Two Timothy Wallace. Since 9/11, the band has provided musical and operational support while being deployed to Kosovo in support of Operation KFOR, Pakistan for support in response to the earthquake that rocked the area in 2005, Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, and 3 deployments to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. These professional Soldier-Musicians are trained and ready to deploy anywhere in the world.

Stateside, the musicians of the 10^th Mountain Division Light Infantry Band provide a wide range of musical support for the Soldiers, as well as the citizens, of the North Country. In addition to Marching and Ceremonial Band, the 10^th Mountain Division Band can also field an array of diverse performing groups such as: Rock Band, Jazz Combo, Brass Quintet, and many other smaller ensembles.

Fulton Music Association Presents Senior Music Awards

The Fulton Music Association (FMA), presented the 2012 Senior Music Awards at the 15th Celebration of Community Music concert on Sat., May 19, it was announced by Steve Chirello, FMA president. G. Ray Bodley High School seniors Nathan Deavers (far left) and Nicholas Abelgore each received a $500 Outstanding Senior Music Award. Dallaslyn Lamb received a $300 Special Achievement in Music Award. Deavers, an accomplished vocalist, will attend SUNY Brockport this fall where he plans to pursue a degree in Business Administration. Abelgore, who is proficient on trombone, piano and guitar, will attend Syracuse University where he will major in Music Performance. Lamb, a cellist, will attend the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT), where she will major in film and video production. The FMA also helps sponsor Fulton’s summer concert series, Chirello said. FMA annually brings special performances to Fulton by the U.S. Army’s 10th Mountain Div. Band and cooperative programs with SUNY Oswego as part of its ongoing activities.

G. Ray Bodley High School in the Fulton City School District recently inducted 48 new members in the Joseph Compolieta Chapter of the National Honor Society in a ceremony held at the High School. NHS promotes the recognition of students, juniors and/or seniors, based on four criteria: scholarship, leadership, character, and service. Scholarship is based on academic achievement and students must have an average of at least 89.5% to be considered for membership. In addition to academic eligibility, potential candidates should also be involved in school and/or community related activities, be responsible, dependable, resourceful, and uphold principals of morality and ethics.

Following a welcome by NHS president Elyse Cianfarano, Chelsea Avery, Clarissa Bawarski, Bella DeGelorm and Morgan Stafford sang the National Anthem and Alma Mater for G. Ray Bodley High School. GRB Principal Brian Buchanan congratulated not only the inductees but also acknowledged the many great supporters who helped the new members achieve this honor – their families and teachers.
Chapter officers conducted the ceremony inducting the new members with readings on the four precepts of National Honor Society and listed the new members’ accomplishments and achievements, including their record of community service, as each new name was announced.

GRB’s science program beneficiary of ExxonMobil grant

The science department at G. Ray Bodley (GRB) High School in the Fulton City School District recently received a $750 grant from the ExxonMobil Educational alliance program. G. Ray Bodley (GRB) High School in the Fulton City School District has received a $750 grant from the ExxonMobil Educational alliance program to support the school’s science program. Mark Giovannetti, owner of Babcock Oil Co. Inc. worked with school officials to secure the grant, which is one of 2,400 available to schools across the country served by Exxon or Mobil stations. The grants were made possible by funding from the ExxonMobil Corporation.

“GRB works hard to make learning interesting and fun,” said Giovannetti. “As a Mobil retailer, I am proud to help the young people of Fulton.

The ExxonMobil Educational Alliance program is designed to provide Exxon and Mobil retailers with an opportunity to invest in the future of their communities through educational grants to neighborhood schools. ExxonMobil believes that, as members of the community, local retailers are best qualified to work with local educators to help identify schools and programs most in need of support.

Giovanetti met stringent eligibility criteria before applying for and being awarded this grant, including having a commitment to provide a superior buying experience for customers.

Fulton Community Band Christmas Concert Dec. 19 At G. Ray Bodley Auditorium

The sounds of the holiday season will once again be heard at 7:00 p.m. Sun., Dec. 19 at the annual Fulton Community Band Christmas Concert in the G. Ray Bodley High School auditorium, said Steve Chirello, president of the Fulton Music Association.

The Fulton Community Band will be featured performing several new arrangements and old favorites including music from Handel’s “Messiah”, Leroy Anderson’s “Sleigh Ride” and “Great Songs of Christmas”. The former Holy Family/St. Michaels Choir, under the direction of Dolores Walrath, will be also be singing in the concert. The evening will end with a rousing Christmas carol sing-along with the band, the choir, the Hamer Sing-a-long group and the audience.

G. Ray Bodley Graduate Michael Montagna Recruited to Play Division I Hockey

Fulton City School District class of 2010 graduate Michael Montagna was recruited to play NCAA Division I ice hockey for the University of Vermont Catamounts. Montagna is pictured above with G. Ray Bodley High School Principal Brian Buchanan.

Fulton City School District graduate Michael Montagna from the class of 2010 was recruited to play National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I ice hockey at the University of Vermont. Skating since he was three years old, Montagna was a member of the school districtâ€™s varsity ice hockey team his freshman year and then finished out the remainder of his high school years playing forward for the Syracuse Stars Tier III Junior A ice hockey team. Post graduation, Montagna is slated to play for one year on the Waterloo, Iowa Black Hawks Tier 1Â junior ice hockey team of the United States Hockey League (USHL) and then will head off to the University of Vermont in the fall of 2011.

Ruiz, Wood Win Fulton Lions’ Scholarships

Daisy Ruiz and Amanda Wood, 2010 graduates of G. Ray Bodley High School, were awarded the Fulton Lions Clubâ€™s 2010 H. and Mary Dowd Memorial Scholarship and John Scaringi Memorial Scholarship respectively. The Scaringi scholarship provides the winner with $750 per year for four years and the Dowd scholarship provides $500 per year toward their college costs. Ruiz will be attending Cayuga Community College with plans to transfer to Buffalo State to study Criminal Justice. Wood Â will attend Damon College and major in Physical Therapy. On hand for the presentation were, from left (seated): Ruiz and Wood. Standing, from left: Fulton Lions scholarship committee members Steve Bero, Peggy Donnelly, and Steve Young. The Fulton Lions Club is one of the largest and most active in Central New York. He encouraged the students to explore and find things that interest them and that they are passionate about and said, â€œFollow you own path in life, lead from your heart.â€
