warm up Oswego logoThe recent warm spell has eaten away much of this winter’s snowfall. With the annual Warm Up Oswego Festival on the horizon, some light snow will probably fall – but daily highs are forecast to linger in the mid-30s.



Temps Drop Below Zero, But No Record

The temperature fell below zero on Sunday. The last time that happened was in March of 2007. It didn’t come close to the record low set in 2004, however.



December 2009 Was Rather Average

The temperature and precipitation were both just about average last month. Total snowfall, however, was more than 5.5 inches below normal.

Brooklyn Saternow receives a big hug from Santa Claus on Wednesday evening. He welcomed hundreds of youngsters at Oswego High School where a huge crowd turned out for the Kingsford Park School's 'Polar Express' Pajama Party.

Temperatures near 40 and rain showers will have little impact on Santa’s sojourn Christmas Eve. A white Christmas this year is as certain as a visit from the Jolly Old Elf.



Fall 2009 Was A Tad Warmer Than Normal

<p>The above average warmth this fall made for some pleasant days to fish in the Oswego River in September and October as well.</p>As we welcome winter on Monday, we look back at a warm autumn. It was also very dry and – snow free. The other four times we were so snow-free in the fall the winter wound up with less than 100 inches of snow. Will history repeat itself?



December Languishing In ‘Snow Drought’

<p>The heavy snowfall makes reading the time on the City Hall clock tower difficult. But the flag gives no doubt to the strong northerly winds.</p>Despite Wednesday’s snow burst, the area’s snowfall is still below where it should be. While December’s snowfall is about where it should be, the season started nearly 10 inches below average – which could mean a winter with less than 100 inches of snow.



November 2009 Was Very Warm And Dry

Last month seemed more like spring than late fall. It was 5.4 degrees warmer than average. It was 2.78 inches below average for precipitation. And, snowfall was 9.1 inches below normal.



Snowless Days Of November May Mean A Low Snow Winter

oswego 19We’ve gone 235 days without measurable snow.  While Syracuse has gone longer — 277 days — a local observer of the weather sees something else in the numbers.  Bill Gregway thinks we might be in for a winter of very little snow.



October Was A Bit Wetter, Cooler Than Average

<p>October was a good time to check out the fall colors.</p>The average temperature last month was nearly 1.5 degrees colder than normal. Precipitation was a little higher than average – but there wasn’t any snow.
