SUNY Chancellor Announces Major Expansion Of National Student Success Model To Improve Student Support, Retention, And Completion

During a meeting with the State University of New York Board of Trustees, SUNY Chancellor John B. King, Jr. announced the major expansion of a national model of academic and wraparound support to help students succeed toward graduation. Beginning this spring, 25 SUNY campuses will replicate the City University of New York (CUNY) Accelerated Study in Associate Programs (ASAP), which dramatically increases associate degree completion, and Accelerate, Complete, and Engage (ACE), which is the baccalaureate version of ASAP.

State Labor Department Releases Preliminary July 2023 Area Unemployment Rates

The New York State Department of Labor today released preliminary local area unemployment rates for July 2023. Rates are calculated using methods prescribed by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. The State’s area unemployment rates rely in part on the results of the Current Population Survey, which contacts approximately 3,100 households in New York State each month. To recap last week’s statewide press release, New York State’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate held constant at 3.9% in July 2023.

New York State Climate Justice Working Group Finalizes Disadvantaged Communities Criteria To Advance Climate Justice

New York State today announced the Climate Justice Working Group’s (CJWG) finalization of the criteria for identifying disadvantaged communities. Following today’s CJWG vote, the criteria is enacted and will guide the equitable implementation of New York’s ambitious Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act (Climate Act) provisions that prioritize disadvantaged communities by requiring reductions in air pollution and climate-altering greenhouse gas emissions and targeting clean energy and energy efficiency investments.

Announcing A Funding Opportunity For FY23 Conservation Innovation Grants In New York

The USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) is announcing the availability of up to $500,000 for Conservation Innovation Grants (CIG) in New York. Funding will be awarded to applications that support the development of new tools, approaches, practices, and technologies that further natural resource conservation on private lands. Our FY23 state conservation priorities are climate resilience, urban agriculture, and organic agriculture.

HUD Awards $3.2 Million To Fight Housing Discrimination In New York

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) today awarded $54 million to 182 fair housing organizations across the country under its Fair Housing Initiatives Program (FHIP). The grants will provide $28,200,000 to support the efforts of national, state, and local fair housing entities working to address violations of the Fair Housing Act and helping to end discrimination in housing. In addition, HUD provided $26,350,000 in funding to its second and third year Private Enforcement Initiative grantees to continue fair housing enforcement efforts nationwide.
