Albany-area lawyer Warren Redlich will run for Governor of New York this year, seeking both the Libertarian and Republican endorsements.

Redlich becomes the first challenger to Rick Lazio, the Long Island Republican who is gathering support for his party’s nomination.

The act would grant a degree of flexibility and autonomy to SUNY that university leaders have long sought. It would separate the state’s 64 campuses from other state agencies, grant the system’s board of trustees significant tuition-setting authority and free campuses from burdensome purchasing and contracting constraints.

State Sen. Darrel J. Aubertine today announced that he has chosen to set aside the title of Senate Energy and Telecommunications Chair after a successful year for the committee in the interest of forging a stronger bi-partisan relationship in the Senate.

Assemblyman Will Barclay (R,C,I?Pulaski) said today he is encouraged by the Empire State Center for New York State Policy’s ‘Blueprint for a Better Budget,’ saying this report provides a framework for budget reform and policy changes.

This year proved to have its many challenges and disappointments. Perhaps the year’s greatest disappointment, however, was the budget that passed in the spring of 2009. It contained $8.2 billion in taxes and fee increases and increased government spending by 10 percent. As a result, the average family of four will pay an extra $2,362 in higher taxes and fees this year.

In it, he will call for sweeping ethics and anti-corruption reforms.

The Oswego County Legislature’s Community and Consumer Affairs Committee presents Debra Mullenax with a certificate of appreciation for her 25 years of service to the county. Mullenax is a real property data coordinator in the Oswego County Real Property Tax Office.

Some of the names and faces may have changed, but for Fulton’s Common Council, the challenge remains the same. Three new members of the Council were sworn in on January 1. Mayor Ron Woodward praised the newcomers for their “courage to step forward in the current times.”
