The proposed amendment to the city charter would have restricted illuminated and flashing signs in the Port City. A revised proposal might be headed back to the committee level for further discussion.
At Tuesday night’s public hearing regarding the Oswego school district’s proposed budget a few speakers came forward. Some urged the board to reconsider some of the proposed reductions. Others said they agreed with the tentative cuts.
The tentative $74,844,748 spending plan is less than the current budget. It would cut about 23 positions and increase the tax rate by 43 cents per $1,000 assessed valuation. Several members of the public spoke out against some of the proposed job reductions.
UPDATED: A special school board meeting is set Thursday to discuss the budget. Unofficially, voters defeated the 2008-09 spending plan by a 1,666 no to 1,133 yes tally. The school board can now either adopt the budget as currently is or meet and decide to reduce the budget.
Hospital spokespersons on both sides of the issue have confirmed that Oswego Health has submitted a proposal to A.L. Lee Memorial Hospital in an effort to mitigate the Department of Health’s decision to close inpatient and emergency services in Fulton.All Content Copyright Dot Publishing 2024.
