OSWEGO, NY – Mary Kate Cloonan, won second place in the Oswego Reading Council’s 2011 22nd Annual Writing Contest.

This year’s topic was:  “A Special Person In My Life Is…”.

Mary Kate wrote about her mother.

Mary Kate is in Sandra McCann’s class at the Frederick Leighton Elementary School.

Reading Council cites KPS Students

OSWEGO, NY – Kingsford Park Elementary School students Victoria Crisafulli, Willow-Su Knapp and Caitlin Lilly were joined by teachers Patty Dixon and Chris Castiglia as the students celebrated their awards in the annual Oswego Reading Council Writing Contest.

Lilly and Crisafulli placed second and third in the third grade category and Knapp was second in the fourth grade division.

This year’s themes were “A Special Person in My Life” and “The Person I most Admire.’

Other KPS students earning honorable mention status included Grayson Cary, Alyssa Morley, Madison Bouchard, Sophia Greene, Joan Carroll, Sydney-Yu Terpening and Jhensen Perez.

OSWEGO, NY – Emily Glenn, a kindergarten student at the Frederick Leighton Elementary School, recently earned a second place award from the Oswego Reading Council in their annual writing contest.

Emily wrote about “a very special person in her life”…her father.

For Cayuga Community College graduate and Commencement speaker Brian Knapp ’13, this day almost never came. On August 4, 2008, nine days before his 21st birthday, he was driving his Marine commander through the country side of Afghanistan when they vehicle drove over an improvised explosive device. He sustained a traumatic brain injury and struggled to remember simple words like “gate.”

Barclay: It Is Time To Put More Teeth Into Assembly’s Ethics Committee After Latest Public Scandal

Assemblyman Will Barclay said today the ethic’s oversight in the state Assembly is inadequate and needs to be reformed in order to protect the public’s interest, not political interest. Barclay is planning to put forth legislation that will create in law an Assembly standing committee on Ethics and Guidance that will be independent of the Assembly Speaker.
