Quest for Winter Rainbows – Salmon and Oswego Rivers Sparkle with Steelhead This Time of Year

February finds a lot of New Yorkers complaining about the weather. They’re sick of snow banks lining sidewalks and streets, dirty slush soiling their shoes, pant legs and cars in streaks of mud and salt. But there’s a lot of color around if you know where to look for it, and the best place to catch a rainbow right now is Oswego County’s Lake Ontario tributaries.



OHS Wrestler Pins Down Crown

Shane Bartrum captured the Class AA 189 crown on the mat during the weekend while the number one hockey team in the state was nearly upset by the Bucs and the girls’ basketball and boys’ bowling teams swept their foes. Meanwhile, the boys’ varsity cagers lost and the girls’ jayvee five picked up a nail-biting win.



Fulton Takes Class A Wrestling Crown

Fulton is again the class of Class A, sweeping to a solid victory in the Section III Class A meet this past weekend in Fulton.

The Red Raiders posted a team score of 249, 50 points higher than second-place Indian River.  See a gallery of photos from the meet by wrestling parent Michele Earl, inside.

The Oswego Lady Bucs are bound for the “Final Four” of the state tournament, while Eliza Parker continued to show why she is one of the tops in her events on the indoor track. And, the eighth grade girls’ basketball team continues its winning ways and the modified wrestlers showed heart in their latest matches.



Fulton Swimmers Send Off Seniors With Personal Bests

Fulton sent its senior swimmers off with cookies baked by their coach, and a 104-65 loss to league champ Mexico on Wednesday.

The Oswego State Mens Club Hockey team hosted rival Cortland recently and fell just short of defeating the Red Dragons at the Campus Center Ice Arena. Falling behind 2-0, the Lakers battled back to come within 1 goal but, even with the Laker goalie being pulled, couldn’t put the puck in the net for the tie.
