SUNY Oswego's recent Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration featured a proclamation by Oswego Mayor Randolph Bateman. From left are celebration co-founder Tony Henderson, who retired from the college in January; SUNY Oswego Associate Provost and Oswego Common Council member Cathy Santos; the Rev. Richard Rice of Rochester; SUNY Oswego President Deborah F. Stanley; and Mayor Bateman. Noting that Santos is the first person of color to serve on the Common Council, Bateman invited her to read the mayor's proclamation during the ceremony. The event concluded with an oratorical contest sponsored by the Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity.

The SUNY Oswego Student Association and the mayor's Campus-City Relations Committee invited local businesses to participate in the Cruisin' the City fair in Hewitt Union at the opening of SUNY Oswego's spring semester to introduce students, faculty and staff to local businesses and services in the community.
