There was a writer’s celebration in the second grade classroom of Michelle McManus at Frederick Leighton Elementary School.
More than four dozen teachers, from a variety of subjects, became students for four days this week. They took part in the Summer Writing Institute at Sheldon Hall. Guest speaker for the opening day was local award-winning author Laurie Halse Anderson.
Once again the Rose Izzo Writing Award was presented to a departing Fitzhugh Park Elementary School sixth grader. The award, introduced several years ago by the Izzo family is presented to one outstanding writer among the FPS sixth graders. This year, Kristina Skogfeldt was the recipient.
The Oswego City School District received a $20,000 grant from Entergy to support a collaborative, writing project for teachers and students.
The Writing Institute has become a program that has brought together elementary teachers from throughout the Oswego City School District.
Fitzhugh Park Elementary School sixth grader Erin McManus received the Rose M. Izzo Writing Award during the recent ceremony recognizing Fitzhugh Park students.
The Oswego City School District received a $10,000 Entergy grant for a four-day summer writing institute conducted by Teachers College, Reading and Writing Project at Columbia University.
SUNY Oswego will celebrate 40 years of creative writing with student readings and an appearance by emeritus Professor Lewis Turco at Quest on April 23.
The H. Lee White Marine Museum in Oswego is pleased to again offer two unique contests for Oswego County students.
The Fulton District Wide Storytelling Festival was held and storytellers from throughout the district showcased their talents in telling a wide variety of stories.
