Neighborhood Watch – Oswego’s Vanguard

The motto of the Oswego Community Neighborhood Watch Program is “We look out for each other.” It’s just that simple, according to coordinator Betty Gray. “Neighborhood Watch and caring for our citizens, neighborhoods and community is everyone’s responsibility to help our city prosper and return to safety for all,” she said

The heat and humidity didn’t deter Oswegonians from purchasing their favorite fruits, vegetables and sweets or just meeting their friends downtown. Thursday was SUNY Oswego night at the market and many college students were among the dozens of market-goers.

The weekend weather forecast has claimed the first and hopefully only victim of the 2010 Budweiser Classic Weekend as the Syracuse Nationals Super Cruise and WSEN “Party in the Pits” has been canceled for Friday night.

We are projecting more than 3,000 reports for the year if the pace of reports continues at this level. Last year we ended with 2,757. This is a 9.4 percent increase over 2009 and a 31.5 percent increase over the last two years. We’re averaging about 251 reports a month, that’s pretty significant, the commissioner said.

Oswego County Public Health Director Dr. Dennis Norfleet said this afternoon that a horse in the Town of Albion has succumbed to Eastern equine encephalitis. It is the second horse to test positive for the disease this year in Oswego County.

The goal is to not only bring the Oswego community together through Greg Mortenson’s book (Three Cups of Tea), but also raise awareness and encourage a world view that advocates understanding and tolerance.

There will be a 200th anniversary of the War of 1812.  There will even be events around the state to mark the anniversary.  But there won’t be a commission to pull the events together and promote tourism for those events, including events at Fort Ontario.

High school sports gets back in action this week.  Thursday, teams from Oswego were in action.

Tennis, soccer and volleyball during the day, and the start of the high school football season tonight — including the first game in Fulton’s brand new turf field facility.

The Oswego Public Library will host a special event on Sept. 11, a celebration of the Underground Railroad in Oswego County.

When United Way board member Jonathan Daniels, executive director of the Port of Oswego Authority, was asked to reprise his role as chairperson for the United Way’s Campaign Cabinet he found it to be a decision that was easy to make.

The Eis House in Mexico was the setting for the ceremony uniting Nicole Hilgenberg and Nicholas Matott. on Saturday, August 7, 2010 at 5pm.

The next meeting of the Society will be held on Saturday August 28, beginning with a noon lunch. On the 21st the annual Redfield School Reunion will be held under the direction of Alumni President Fay Ann Colvin. Anyone who ever attended a school in the town of Redfield is welcome and [...]
