Dakota Ingersoll receives the Laurie Godfrey Memorial Award

OSWEGO, NY – Dakota Ingersoll received the Laurie Godfrey Memorial Award for Creative Writing at the annual Frederick Leighton award’s assembly.

Lorraine Smith, Laurie’s mother (second from left), presented the award.

Gathering together are Dakota’s family members: sister, Kamilyn; mom and dad, Camille and Chris Shaw; Frederick Leighton Principal Julie Burger; and sister, Brittany.

The Oswego County Legislature’s Human Services Committee presented a proclamation designating November as Runaway Prevention Month. There are more than 800 runaway or are homeless youth in Oswego County in any given year. Cortini’s and Cleaners Collaborate to Collect Coats for Cold Kids

A coterie of Fulton school children will have cozy winter coats thanks to two local business owners and the generosity and kindness of the community. Joe Cortini, owner of Cortini Shoe Zipper Canvas Repair and Jeanne McManus, owner of Ontario Star Cleaners have teamed up with Fairgrieve Home and School to collect, clean, repair and distribute gently used coats, hats and mittens to students in the district.

New Operating Hours for Solid Waste Transfer Stations Will Begin in January

Beginning Jan. 1, Oswego County solid waste transfer stations will be open four days a week. All of the transfer stations will continue to be open Saturdays from 8 a.m. to noon. Weekdays hours are 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
