Harborfest seeks acts for the 2013 festival

With a successful Harborfest in the books for 2012, planning is already well under way for the 26th edition of the festival in 2013, which will be held July 25 to the 28.

The festival features national, regional and local acts performing a wide range of music, including jazz, country, folk, big band and rock.

Performers interested in appearing at the 2013 festival can obtain an application through the Harborfest website, www.oswegoharborfest.com, by clicking on “Applications” on the home page.

Applications can also be obtained in person from the Harborfest Offices at 41 Lake St., Oswego, NY.

Application deadline is January 17, 2013.

A labeled CD and a press kit must accompany each application.

Oswego Students Earn Writing Contest Recognition

Oswego City School District students were recognized in the 26th Oswego County Reading Council Writing Contest. Kingsford and Fitzhugh elementary schools along with the Oswego Middle School were well-represented in the annual event and several students earned awards for their “My Dream Vacation” writing piece.

Child Advocacy Center to host free Bike Drawings at Novelis Family Park

A non-profit agency that works to protect and serve child victims of sexual and physical abuse, the Child Advocacy Center will have a tent in the Novelis Family Park from noon to 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday. The CAC will host free drawings for a child’s bicycle. The drawings are free, there is no purchase necessary, to enter just stop by the CAC tent and register for the free drawing.
