Police Investigate Death of Woodville Woman

SANDY CREEK, NY - A day of fun on the water turned fatal Monday in the town of Sandy Creek.

The Oswego County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of 50-year-old Christine M. Reed of 3114 state Route 3 in Woodville.

Police say Reed was riding an inflatable tube on Sandy Pond as it was towed behind an 18-foot Thompson open-bow boat that was being operated by Timothy C. Briggs of 14 Pondview Lane, Sandy Creek.

“It was reported that the inflatable tube struck a wave and flipped over, throwing Christine Reed into the water,” police said.

Reed was wearing a personal floatation device. She was pulled from the water and became unresponsive.

“They called for emergency medical personnel before they even came out of the water,” Oswego County Sheriff Reuel Todd said.

She was transported to University Hospital by Mercy Flight where she was pronounced dead.

“We are waiting on the results of an autopsy to see what exactly happened,” Todd said. He noted that his department is not looking at criminal charges in the case at this time.

“I think it may have been just a freak accident,” Todd said.

The investigation continues.
