FULTON, NY – The case against a Fulton teenager who was arrested after allegedly causing serious injuries to his 18-month-old daughter will see its next days in a grand jury room.
Robby J. Guppy, 17, of 604 E. Broadway, upstairs apartment, was arrested July 30 and charged with a class-D felony count of second-degree assault, a class-A misdemeanor count of third-degree assault and two class-A misdemeanor count of endangering the welfare of a child.
Guppy was slated to make an appearance in Fulton City Court Wednesday. Instead, his lawyer — Michael J. Vavonese — waived the charges to Oswego County Court, according to Fulton City Court Clerk Maureen Ball.
Oswego County Assistant District Attorney Mark Moody said he received notice of the change Tuesday. Because the matter is a pending criminal case, Moody declined comment.
The charges stemmed from separate incidents that allegedly took place July 25 and July 26. After the child would not stop crying, police said Guppy punched and slapped the girl on her face and body, causing bruising, swelling and pain. Police said Guppy also intentionally burned the toddler with a cigarette, causing second-degree burns to her left hand and left ear lobe.
Guppy was arraigned by Fulton City Court Judge Jerome Mirabito and remanded to the Oswego County Correctional Facility. He was released Aug. 18 on a $10,000 bail bond.
