Owens Wins Race For Congress

Democrat Bill Owens confounded the experts and defied more than a century of history as he won the three way race for Congress from Oswego County and the North Country.

With about 80% of votes counted, Owens held about a 4,000 vote lead.  There are as many as 11,000 absentee ballots yet to be counted and a handful of voting locations across the district had their voting machines sealed for hand counts beginning today.

Oswego Pair Facing Drug Charges

Campaign’s Focus: The Candidate Who Wasn’t There

The final day of the campaign for Congress was a wild one, with Doug Hoffman and Bill Owens continuing to spend time on the candidate who isn’t in the race anymore.

Hoffman, the Conservative Party’s candidate, called for an investigation of Republican Dede Scozzafava’s decision to quit running and, a day later, endorse Democrat Bill Owens.  Owens continued to praise Scozzafava for her decision to back him.

Oswego County’s Share of Stimulus Funds So Far: $80 Million

An analysis by Oswego County Today that compared the amount of stimulus funds to the population of the counties shows that Oswego County is getting $659.87 in stimulus funds for each of the county’s 121,454 residents (using 2007 Census estimates).

That’s below the $804.68 average for each person in the state, but a little above the median amount of $641.53.

Hannibal Sports Boosters Donates Money to Pay for JV Wrestling

This is the second of four installments, totaling more than $27,000, that will be donated to the Hannibal Central School District to fund JV sports that were eliminated from the 2009-10 budget. JV Football, Fall Cheerleading, JV Wrestling, JV Baseball and JV Softball were all cut from the budget.

Half-Shire Historical Society: Research Day Is This Weekend

On Saturday October 24, the society will open its doors from 10am until 4 pm for a full day of research. At noon the society will serve a roast ham lunch just prior to our regular monthly meeting. The meeting and lunch are open to the public. There are many new research volumes on the shelves, and even those familiar with our collections will be surprised.
